At the beginning of the year, specifically the second Monday in January, the Japanese celebrate all the children who turn 20 this year, thus finally becoming an adult. There is usually a festival to celebrate this, and presents are passed around and such.
Usually.
Beppu is apparently an exception. I went down with the intent of finding tons of food stands and maybe a shrine with craziness going on or something, but I was greeted with absolutely nothing.
Crapdammit.
Oh well. I finished off the Marvel minis collection while I was out at least. The secret figure is..... Stealth Armor Iron Man! Yeah, kind of a let down. The paint on it is actually really sloppy and everything. Blech.
Also got the urge to try some things from Paris Croissante again. The last time was met with undesirable results (what with the last time having random things filling my bread and all). I got a hotdog on a stick with bread on it (nope, not a corn dog) and something that was called "Royal White Bread". It didn't seem special which is good because I wanted it to be just a giant biscuit like it looked like. Turns out the hot dog stick was FILLED with mayo and the Royal White Bread had some sort of...awful goo inside of it.
I really need to stop taking chances on this crap.
Also, nothing to do with Japan and I know this is old (though I'm sure not all of you have seen it) but I still love it:

If you can't read that then you're either not trying hard enough or you're an English major.
